Going Fishing by Max Karp
Enamel-Powdered Glass Fired on Copper
Size: 9"x12" unframed
13.25"X16.50" framed
It was through Jack Krauss that I was intoduced to enamel art. Jack was Karp's
exclusive representative when he (Jack) owned the Nyack, N.Y. gallery. I was in line to take over the sales department because Jack had sold the gallery and wanted to stay with it for several days until he could teach me the process of creating enamels and his gift-like manner of selling them.
To Jack Krauss
Jack Krauss, you wanted me to join your staff and become one of your personnel when you opened your gallery in Las Vegas. It was tempting and I WOULD HAVE BEEN HONORED WORKING FOR YOU! Besides representing you, an amazing, masterful director, I could have represented an amazing First Class Person. After reading Max Karp's biography I was surprised that the Nyack,N.Y. gallery was not mentioned. I'll never forget the late nights I worked and played hostess to guests from the yachts who would end up in the gallery past midnight. Some bought and some drank more of the champagne we served. I wrapped sold enamels as you showed me, like a gift.
Jack Krauss became the exclusive representative for Karp enamels in the 60s and opened his first gallery in Nyack,N.Y.and I believe he is still an owner of the Whitt/Krauss Gallery in San Diego.
To me Max Karp and Jack Krauss are synonymous when speaking of Karp's enamels.
I wouldn't object to repeating some of the days that I directed this gallery, but for a short time, as there's nothing like owning your own gallery. After Jack left for Las Vegas without me I continued to direct the gallery for the new owners.
You can find out a little more about Max Karp on the internet and view some of his masterpieces. Get in touch if you are interested in "Going Fishing".
Mr. Karp is now diseased. And I was recently informed that Jack Krauss has passed on as well. I'm leaving my personal tribute to Jack on my blog.

Going Sledding by Carol Simkin
Enamel: Powdered Glass Fired on Copper
8"x10" Oval
Carol Simkin used to visit The Max Karp Enamel Art Gallery in Nyack, N Y.before I became director of the gallery in the late sixties and after that time would visit periodically. She was a student of Max Karp and if she hadn't signed her work, there were times I couldn't tell their work apart.
This piece is from my personal collection. The frame is an Italian import.
While googling Simkin I finally found a gallery in Newport Beach, Ca. that has a single piece of hers for sale. It seems as though owners of Simkin's enamels are keeping them. Enamels are the jewels of the Art World.

Dress Rehersal - (a detail) by Sheversky - Reproduced by M. Morse
Oil Painting
24"x30" unframed
The artist, M.Morse, was willing to accommodate client's special requests for the personal detailing of their selected work of art. In the same few minutes I could be discussing a hand signed Picasso graphic and it's value to asking the artist Morse if she can add windows and a bar to the painting posted. You just gotta love what you do!
I found an antique white baroque frame to replace the one shown here. So there is a choice and eventually I will have it photographed.
I'm sad to say that the artist is working and selling on her own and preparing to move out of state. I loved working with her and miss her.

Erte Art Books -- At 90 and 95
Still Sealed
Erte astounded the art world with his repertoire of styles as can be seen in these volumes "At 90" and "At 95." I am asking $400 for the two Volumes. They have been in my collection since their publication and never opened by me. The others I have were and are still used for references by the gallery and clients, the latter had to pass inspection before they could touch my books. My used books are in very good condition.
Contact the gallery if you are interested in any of the Erte Volumes.
